HALESTORM's LZZY HALE Says She Really Started Getting Back To Her Roots With Her Songwriting
September 1, 2019In a brand new interview with Australia's Silver Tiger Media, HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale spoke about how her songwriting has developed over the years, particularly since the band won a 2013 Grammy in the category of "Best Hard Rock/ Metal Performance" for "Love Bites (So Do I)".
"This last record [2018's 'Vicious'], I really started getting back to my roots, but also back to just writing the way that I enjoy to write and writing for me," she said. "Because when I was a teenager, and before this became a career, I should say, I was just following whatever got me excited, and for the most part I've done that for the majority of my career. But sometimes other things creep in, like, 'Okay, is this gonna be good for our label?' 'Is this gonna better than [our last] record?' 'Is this gonna make the fans disappointed?' All these things that happen. 'Is this gonna be a hit on the radio?' Blah blah blah. That kind of thing. And what I've noticed is that the more that you focus on your true self and the more that you are actually unapologetic about everything that you are, the better that becomes, the better songs you write. You're letting that happen. And so I remember I used to be able to do that, and I reconnected with that lately."
"Vicious" was released in July 2018 via Atlantic. The disc was recorded at Nashville, Tennessee's Rock Falcon recording studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz.
According to the Grammy web site, Lzzy was the first woman to earn a Grammy in the "Best Hard Rock/ Metal Performance" category.
Earlier this year, HALESTORM was nominated for a "Best Rock Performance" Grammy Award for its song "Uncomfortable".
Formed in 1997 in Red Lion, Pennsylvania, HALESTORM features Hale and her brother Arejay Hale (drums),Joe Hottinger (guitar) and Josh Smith (bass).
